Background of the Study

Strategic resource allocation is essential for optimizing business efficiency, especially in sectors like healthcare, where resource constraints can directly impact service delivery and patient outcomes. Hospitals must allocate financial, human, and material resources strategically to meet increasing demands for quality care (Porter & Teisberg, 2024).

In Katsina State, hospitals face challenges such as limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, and a growing patient population. Strategic resource allocation can improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service quality, contributing to better healthcare outcomes (Ahmed & Bello, 2025).

This study examines how strategic resource allocation impacts business efficiency in hospitals, providing actionable recommendations for improved performance.

Statement of the Problem

Hospitals in Katsina State struggle with resource allocation challenges, including insufficient funding, mismanagement, and workforce shortages. These issues lead to inefficiencies, poor service delivery, and patient dissatisfaction (Usman et al., 2024).

While resource allocation strategies are widely studied, there is limited research focusing on their impact on business efficiency in healthcare settings in Katsina State. This study addresses this gap by investigating resource allocation practices and their outcomes in hospitals.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine resource allocation strategies employed by hospitals in Katsina State.
  2. To analyze the impact of resource allocation on business efficiency in hospitals.
  3. To identify challenges hospitals face in implementing effective resource allocation.

Research Questions

  1. What resource allocation strategies are used by hospitals in Katsina State?
  2. How does strategic resource allocation influence business efficiency in hospitals?
  3. What challenges hinder effective resource allocation in hospitals?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Strategic resource allocation significantly influences business efficiency in hospitals.
  2. Effective resource allocation positively impacts service quality and operational performance.
  3. Challenges in resource allocation negatively affect hospital efficiency.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on public and private hospitals in Katsina State from 2023 to 2025, examining resource allocation strategies and outcomes. It excludes non-healthcare institutions and hospitals outside the state. Limitations include varying levels of resource availability and reluctance to share operational data.

Definitions of Terms

  • Strategic Resource Allocation: The process of distributing resources effectively to achieve organizational goals.
  • Business Efficiency: The ability to maximize output while minimizing input and waste.
  • Hospitals: Institutions providing medical and surgical treatment and care to patients.
